Here is an opportunity! In February 2010 about 5 people are starting modular posts. In August 2010 the number is about 30!
Therefore now is the time to start thinking about which modular post to do and how to set about organising it. Some of the posts are well established and are already in your rotations, e.g. palliative care and Obs and Gynae/ Women’s health. In that case you do not have to do anything. Some are new and it is also possible to create one’s own post. This is therefore an opportunity! Some people feel that their rotations lack a speciality which they need to be GPs.. Now you can choose something that fits in for you. People who have done a lot of surgery often want something medical. There is palliative care or elderly medicine. People who lack paediatrics can do that, those who would like something a bit different can do Substance misuse or psychiatry. NEW:
We have a new Public Health modular poststarting in August for anyone interested in evidence based medicine or health planning.
We are hoping to have a new Palliative care post starting in August in Dewsbury. This will be a bit different from the existing ones as there is no hospice there. So people doing that post will experience taking quality palliative care out into the community or onto the hospital wards.
Make up your own job. Not many people get the chance to create their own post. As long as it can be shown to give experience suitable for general practice, and someone is willing to take you on, you can arrange this and get help with getting Deanery and PMETB approval from Shelagh Bullimore. Click here to email Shelagh
However—there has to be a catch somewhere, it takes time to arrange a post and get it approved, so don’t leave it to late. Start thinking! Below is a You Tube video of ST3 trainees experiences of our modular posts
If you are undertaking an innovative or modular
post you need to write a Personal Education Plan
for the post and get it approved by Shelagh. Click here to email Shelagh. The documents are downloadable
